Worship at the Park

We had a great time at the annual event Worship at the Park in Mills Park in Carson yesterday. Over 30 and youth, college and adults attended from Crenshaw CoC. We were blessed by Bro Joe Jackson from Myrtle Church of Christ with a great sermon regarding Worship. We were blessed by a message regarding improving our connection with our Lord on a daily basis. After the sermon we spent time in reflection as a group about worship to our Father.

We discussed the importance of drawing closer to God and also serving others and being a blessing to our fellow neighbor. We discussed how we can show our God we love Him by showing our love for others.

We hope to post pictures of this even in the next couple of days.

Bible Class notes from Sunday, August 5th

In bible class yesterday we discussed the importance of serving others. We looked at Isiah 58:6-12 where the importance of helping the less fortunate than ourserlves is called for by God as essential to our protection and blessings from God. We are called to be a positive influence and resource to the people we come in contact with.

We discussed our newest service project: the school supply drive . The purpose of the drive is to provide school supplies not only to our own congregations' youth; but more importantly to the community around us. The group was challenged to not only find donations amongst their family, friends, and neighbors, but also among people they don't know.

They were also asked to look among their friends and see if any of them have school supply needs that they can help meet.

Living a life that matters

Today in bible class we discussed the importance of living a life that matters. That is vital to live a life that endures and that gives instead of takes. We discussed that only two things are truly important : Christ and people. (1 Corrinthians 15:1 & Matthew 22:34ff)

We are going to start our school supply drive next week. The class challenged to think of someone that they could help we school supplies in this drive. They were also challenged to expand their prayer life to include others.

Give thanks to the Lord

When time is pressing don't cancel your time with God. Use this quiet time suggestion to meditate on the Lord. It is simple, yet powerful:
  • Read the Passage
  • Sing a song of praise in response
  • Pray for the Father to instill the principle in your life
Principle: Give Thanks to the Lord.
Passage: Psalm 105:1-4
Praise: "Thank You Lord" by Dennis Jernigan
Prayer: Father, I thank you for remembering me on the cross. Thank you for taking my sin debt away. Thank you for being faithful even in the midst of my unfaithfulness.

Spending time with God

He knelt down on his knees…and prayed
as was his custom since early days.
Daniel 6:10

In one region of Africa, the first converts to Christianity were very diligent about praying. In fact, the believers each had their own special place outside the village where they went to pray in solitude. The villagers reached these “prayer rooms” by using their own private footpaths through the brush. When grass began to grow over one of these trials, it was evident that the person to whom it belonged was not praying very much.

Because these new Christians were concerned for each other’s spiritual welfare, a unique custom sprang up. Whenever anyone noticed an overgrown “prayer path,” he or she would go to the person and lovingly warn, “Friend, there’s grass on your path!”

Have you met with the Lord yet today? Do you regularly come to “the throne of grace” to “obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need? (Hebrew 4:16). Is there “grass on your path”?

No day is well spent without spending time with God.

What is Anger - Be Angry and sin not

What is Anger?
Anger is an emotional response to bad treatment. A response to something we don’t like or a perceived lack of respectful treatment
Bible examples of anger
·     Were they Angry?
·      Did they sin?
Job : Job 2:1ff / Cain : Genesis 4:2-13  / Peter /    Moses: Numbers 20:1-10
Is being angry a sin? - NO
Is it wrong? - It depends
The question to answer is: how do we act when we are angry?
Psalms 4:4, Ephesians 4:26-31
What triggers it? Why are we angry?!!
Is it just things in general or does someone or something upset you?

Possible reasons for anger:
  • Not able to do what u want
  • Being accused of something
  • Being disrespected
  • Unhappy with circumstances
  • Where I live
  • Where I go to school
  • Who I go to school with
  • Parent’s behavior or decisions
How does it affect you?
  • Unhappy with self
  • Looking at possible underlying causes of anger:
  • Sadness
  • Confusion
  • Frustration
Handling anger and angry situations - (Psalms 4:4-6)
  • Positive solutions to handling anger in a more positive manner.
  • Meditate
  • Reflect
  • Pray
  • Respond, if necessary, in a controlled manner.
  • Move forward - don't hold a grudge
